Week 69: June 2-8, 2019

Hurricane season has begun.  The weather feels like a jungle, hot and steamy.  We had a few pouring rains this week but so far, nothing is brewing in the tropics.  We are very grateful for air conditioning at the mission office, our apartment, and everywhere else in FL.

A Sister missionary had trouble breathing the past few weeks and nothing we did seemed to have a lasting effect.  She saw a general practitioner.  She went to urgent care.  She was getting worse and needed to be seen again.  She tried making  appointments with local doctors to no avail.  An idea popped into Sister Faulk’s head to try calling a certain group of pulmonologists.  She wasn’t even sure if there was such a group.  She looked it up on the computer and called.  At first the receptionist said there were no openings for the next several weeks but put a call in to the group to see if they had an availability soon.  Responses came back there were no openings.  Then the receptionist asked if she could be seen that day.  The Sister was seen and tested in the office by a pulmonologist within 90 minutes of Sister Faulk’s phone call.  Now she knows what affects her breathing and how to manage it.   Getting an office visit with a medical specialist within 90 minutes is truly amazing-a miracle.  The Lord prepared a way to make this happen.

Thursday morning the Lake Nona Sister missionaries came over for breakfast.  We had waffles, strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, sausage and juice.  We have the Elders and Sisters over once a month for a meal, usually dinner.  Sister Fehernbacker will be returning home to UT next week and their dinner calendar was full.  We made sure the Sisters were really full with waffles.  Elder Faulk makes truly delicious waffles!
Sisters Sanders, Faulk, and Fehernbacker:

Friday evening we spent a lovely evening at President Wood’s home.  He is a former counselor in the mission presidency.  He and his wife are very involved in the church.  We often see them working in the temple.  Since President and Sister Clark will be returning home to UT soon, we had a final mission presidency dinner.  The Woods offered to have it in their home rather than the mission home.  We had a wonderful meal of chicken and burgers, lots of vegetables, and a raspberry dessert.  It was fun to become better acquainted with the presidency and their wives and make more friends.  Elder Faulk is the secretary and it was nice to be included.  Among other gifts, the Clarks gave each couple a book by President Nelson, “Accomplishing the Impossible.”  We look forward to reading it.  We are truly blessed to serve with such wonderful and dedicated people.  The Humphry’s live in Satellite Beach and in a few weeks the Burt’s are moving to South Carolina.  Dr. Burt will be teaching at the medical school.

Saturday we went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.   When our family visited last month, we purchased a three day pass and went 1 day with the gang.  Our pass expires the end of June so we have to use it or loose it.  Elder Faulk was brave and rode the Slinky Dog roller coaster.   Our favorite ride was the shooting gallery in the Toy Story section of the park.  Even though the rides were short, we were pleasantly surprised the lines were not too long and the crowds were kind even in the heat.   There was an overall spirit of cooperation. It was great to see people so happy and enjoying themselves at Disneyworld.
