Week 53: February 10-16, 2019

We love serving in the Florida Orlando Mission!  A year ago this week, we began our mission in the Provo MTC.  Every week we have the opportunity to interact with missionaries, teach,, support, and learn from them.  The comfort from Our Savior, Jesus Christ, the peace that passeth understanding transcends any earthly concern.   A physically challenged Florida teen was highlighted in the news.  She was born with cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair.  She is on the track team and competes in races from her wheelchair.  She has a tremendous spirit and positive outlook about life.  She said individual ability is greater than any disability.  We know we can be happy despite life’s challenges.  How we respond to them is a personal choice.  We also know that through Christ, all things are possible.

Elder Faulk has a broken foot.  We spent a day in the Emergency Room trying to determine what was causing his leg to swell and foot to be so painful.  We are grateful for modern medicine and technology.  He is in an ortho boot and uses a knee scooter for now.

Sister Faulk updated the bulletin board in her office to reflect more teaching about colds and flu, GI concerns, and healthy nutrition.  Now is the time for missionaries to make good choices that will serve them well and carry them through the later years in life.   It is easier to establish good habits than to correct poor ones.   Hopefully something on the board will speak to each missionary that sees it.

We spent our 38th wedding anniversary (February 14th, Valentine’s Day)  sharing chocolate cake with the mission office staff and taking missionaries to medical appointments then out to dinner.   No one objected to a meal at The Cheesecake Factory.   No place does a better burger or chicken.  It was a delightful and warm Florida evening and we were happy to spend it in service.

Happy 38th Anniversary:

Once again (every 6 weeks) we said good by to missionaries returning home after faithfully serving in Orlando.  Their last full day in FL was rainy but they were excited, happy, and sad all at the same time.  On Friday, the Church sent an email stating all missionaries may now phone home on their preparation days.   Missionaries came into the office with huge smiles on their faces cheering.   We can’t wait to see what good tings this change brings.   We  love and sustain our prophet Russell M Nelson.  We are blessed by his  desire and example to be a true disciple of Christ.
