Week 42: November 25-December 1, 2018

Hurricane season is officially over!  It was 6 months long.  The average is 12 named storms in the Atlantic per year but we had 15 this year.  Hurricane Michael (Category 4) hit Florida’s panhandle and left catastrophic devastation.  It will take years for the communities there to recover.  Many wards throughout the mission (and surrounding states) have been called/assigned to help over several weekends.

This week we took more missionaries to medical appointments.  Sister Faulk had several consultations over the phone and face to face as well.  Elder Faulk comes to the rescue when missionaries lock themselves out of their phones.

Elder McKenzie stopping by the mission office to say hi:

Elders Johns, Mitton, and Faulk:

We had a little cold spell this week and sweaters were needed for 2 days.  Sixty degrees in Orlando, FL feels more like 45 in Lehi, UT.  The humidity makes it cold and perfect weather for soup.  We had the Sisters over one night and the Elders over another night for dinner.  Everyone enjoyed Sister Faulk’s clam chowder and tropical salad.

December 1st marked our church’s initiative for an international day of service.  We planned to help in our local community but we both came down with bad colds leaving us not able to do much.  It was a little disheartening not to participate as intended.  We looked at options and were happy to find the suggestion of donating charitable contributions.  We will do that through our church and designate it for the people in Florida’s panhandle.  On a good note with sick time on board, we were able to catch up on reading Book of Mormon heeding President Nelson’s challenge.

We decorated our little apartment for the Christmas season.  It certainly makes things more cheery and bright.  It is an invitation to more fully feel Our Savior’s Spirit.  Let us remember Jesus Christ not only throughout the holiday season but keep Him in our hearts and reflect His love throughout the year.
