Week 37: October 21-27, 2018

Sunday evening, our friends and fellow missionaries, Susan and Craig, had a dinner party on their lanai.  All their neighbors were invited.  They wanted the neighbors to get to know each other better.  What better way to do that than with a casual delicious grilled dinner?  Sister Faulk helped with the food preparations.

Dinner party at Susan and Craig's:

Early in the week we were in Daytona Beach for more missionary medical appointments.  An elder needed to see an MD but had a difficult time getting an appointment with any clinicians in the area.  Sister Faulk asked him to pray about it which he did and shortly thereafter he was able to schedule an appointment.  At the doctor’s office, Sister Faulk noticed an arrhythmia in the missionary and mentioned it to the MD.  He noticed it too and ordered a consult with his cardiologist for the missionary.  Later in the week we took another Elder to a medical appointment.  Eager to become more familiar with the city, Sister Faulk asked the doctor if there were specific specialty doctors in the area.  That doctor gave her the names of local clinicians including her specialist.  We can’t help but feel and see the Lord’s hand in our lives.

Elders Nelson, Faulk, and Vaki:

Friday Elder and Sister Faulk stepped out of the mission office to prepare for next week’s missionary event and returned to find Sister Faulk’s office soaking wet and out of commission.  Workers were replacing the roof and it sprung a leak into the mission office, mostly in the nurse’s office.  Hopefully fans will be able to dry it out and get rid of the damp smell quickly and hopefully the computer will still work.

Saturday the Sr. couples in the mission visited the Church’s cattle and citrus ranch in central Florida.  It is 50 miles long and 30 miles wide and is the highest producing cattle ranch in the US.  We were able to see lots of cattle, various birds, alligators, orange groves, and large shells all on the ranch.   Afterward we all stopped in St Cloud for a meal at The Catfish Place.  The fish and hush puppies were great.

Florida Orlando Sr missionaries  at the ranch:  Taylor’s, Mantyla’s, Faulk’s, Kroeger’s Carbines, Ekenstam’s:

A new Sr. missionary couple arrived and have been training all week in the mission office.  The Ekenstam’s are from Texas.  He is the fleet coordinator and she is the referral secretary.  We are grateful to receive these wonderful people and look forward to working with them throughout our mission.  We were sad to learn our mission predecessors and mentors are not doing well.  Elder Bill Neff is passing away from an acute, aggressive metastatic cancer.   Sister Neff is struggling with unexpected serious health concerns as well.  Live each day the best you can and practice strong faith in Gospel principles.  His peace will bring comfort and get us through tough situations.   Families can be together forever!
