Week 35: October 7-13, 2018
We appreciated the opportunity to listen to the Sunday sessions of General Conference. We were excited to hear there will be 12 new temples especially in Puerto Rico and Cambodia. There are many people in our area from Puerto Rico. They came because of the devastation from the hurricane last year. Sister Faulk served on the USNS Mercy in Cambodian waters 10 years after their son, Joseph, served a mission in Phnom Penh. We also look forward to the change from 3 hours of Sunday meetings to 2 hours of meetings scheduled for January.
Ruben and Sisters Stratton and Shomaker, had Sunday breakfast with us. Elder Faulk made waffles.
Thursday evening we attended the temple with other Senior missionaries. It is faith promoting to gather with friends and participate in holy ordinances. Elder Faulk is busy sharing Book of Mormons with others. This week he gave one to a bank officer. The young banker graciously accepted it and said he would read it.
Sister Faulk spent most of her week in the hospital with a missionary who had a ruptured appendix and kept his family up to date on his progress. She enjoyed learning more about this Elder and his family, and the opportunity to be in a hospital that emphasizes the importance of Our Savior.
We delivered a mission phone to Sisters in the New Syrnna Beach area. They had time for lunch so we went to the Mellow Mushroom for some great pizza. We appreciate their faith and diligence. Saturday afternoon they found 2 people to teach and bring unto Christ! After pizza, we spent a delightful afternoon on the beach. The sand was very fine and the shoreline water temperature was warmer than the air. We could see schools of small fish in some of the waves. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the summer crowds are gone. While collecting shells, Sister Faulk found a shark tooth. Some of the shells have a pink/purple tint. Elder Faulk gave Sister Faulk a little extra jewelry as the sun was seeking the horizon away from the beach.
Toward the end of the week, our car had trouble starting. We are grateful we weren't stranded somewhere. It turned out the battery needed replacing and Elder Faulk was able to do that readily at Pep Boys. They saw his missionary name tag and gave us a discount because of the volume they do with the Church. We love those kinds of blessings! We are grateful to serve in Florida and help the missionaries. We feel His love and recognize His hand in our lives and in those around us. We love and honor Our Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ.
