Week 12: April 29-May 5, 2018

We spent a wonderful weekend with our Leesburg friends Craig Taylor and Susan Puls.  Sister Puls is the Area Medical Advisor and has 9 missions.   Elder Taylor serves in Member Leadership Support.  Other friends Michelle and Steve, and Colleen and Mark met us and Craig took everyone boating.  Afterward, we had a delicious lunch at the Hurricane Grill.  The waitress, Melissa, saw our missionary nametags and asked if we were having a church meeting.  Sister Faulk said we were gathering as friends for lunch and asked if she believed in Jesus.  When she said yes, Sister Faulk said our church is named after Jesus and asked if she would like a book to know more about us.  She said yes again so Sister Faulk gave her a of Book of Mormon along with a handwritten note and photo.

Earlier in the week, Sister Faulk gave Kayla, the waitress at Flippers (pizza), a Book of Mormon too. Previously, we encouraged her to try pineapple on a pizza and promised to bring her a Book of Mormon on our next visit.  Our investigator Ruben moved to another part of Orlando.  We hope he follows through with his intent to join the church.

Pizza at Flippers:

The mission president wanted to have Portuguese speaking Elders in our area.  Usually ward members sign up to feed missionaries dinner, but the Elders had not yet been to church in this area so the senior missionary couples took turns having them for dinner.  Tuesday night we had Elders Chipman from Minnesota and Elder Cachoeira from Brazil over for baked salmon.   We enjoyed our evening with the Elders and think they enjoyed it too because there were no leftovers. They asked what spiritual qualities do we appreciate in each other?   So we ask, what spiritual qualities do we appreciate in those we love and respect?  What spiritual qualities do we recognize in ourselves and which qualities would we like to develop?

Portuguese-speaking Elders Chipman and Cachoeira with Sister and Elder Faulk:

We live in a 3-story apartment with 4 apartments per level.  Two of our neighbors are from Brazil, another is from India, and all have children..  One of our neighbors is taking night school English classes.  She would eventually like to become a nurse.  Sister Faulk jumped at the chance when the Elders asked if she would like to practice English once a week with her.

A cashier at Target talked to Sister Faulk about the church.   Sister Faulk told English-speaking Elders and they found out more about her.  They are teaching her the principles of the gospel.

Elder Faulk accompanied Elder Hogman to see why some Sisters did not have electricity in their apartment.  They found the breaker switch was tripped.  Thank goodness for easy resolutions!  One of the Sisters in the mission is a former grade school student of Elder Dr. Mr. Faulk!

Sister Taylor and Elder Faulk--Highland Elementary Alumni:

We feel the Lord’s blessings as we serve in FL. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Him by loving and helping others.  We are so grateful for our family and all the good they do.  The restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is a way of life that brings peace and happiness.
